What is Artsmark?
Artsmark empowers teachers with the skills they need to embed arts, culture and creativity across the whole curriculum. Our world-leading teacher CPD is delivered by Goldsmiths, University of London.
Schools are recognised for their exceptional commitment to creativity with the Artsmark Award, accredited by Arts Council England – the only award for arts and culture provision in England.
Artsmark is open to primary, secondary and special schools, as well as hospital schools, pupil referral units, youth offending teams, virtual schools and sixth form colleges in England.

Barnsley LCEP supports schools to embed creativity into the curriculum
In January 2022, Fusion (Barnsley’s Local Cultural Education Partnership) introduced its first Creative Schools Programme.
Five primary schools from across the borough embarked on their Artsmark journey together, led by Fusion’s Schools Arts Network Lead (who is also an Assistant Head at a local primary) and the Network Manager. Barnsley is the 38th most deprived local authority in England, out of 317, with almost two-thirds of Barnsley now classed as ‘deprived’ and 33% of children living in poverty (up from 25%, as identified in Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis’s 2016 report).
The aim of the programme was to support settings in embedding the arts, culture, creativity and heritage across the whole curriculum. Schools were eligible for a £750 bursary (kindly funded via The Cooper Gallery Trustees) to cover both the £500 Artsmark registration fee, as well as £250 towards arts materials.
